From a small leather goods shop in the heart of Florence, Italy, crafted by talented hands 104 years ago, the global fashion empire Gucci was born. It has developed into one of the best fashion brands over time by fusing innovation and traditional craftsmanship. Guccio Gucci, the company's creative founder, passed away 72 years ago, yet his legacy endures, and his vision is reflected in every creation that tells a tale of eternal passion and elegance

Guccio Gucci was born on March 26, 1881, in Florence. His dad was an accomplished leather artisan. Guccio developed an interest in the opulent travel bags that the city's elites carried after working as a receptionist at the Savoy Hotel in London. In addition, Gucci's most recent holiday campaign, which celebrated the season, was held at the same hotel.

After returning to Italy, Guccio developed his leatherworking abilities while working for the travel bag company Franzi. When Italy was prohibited from importing leather due to a League of Nations embargo in 1935, Guccio looked for substitutes and was successful in developing a new material using hemp fibers from Naples.

In 1938, Gucci opened a store in Rome. By 1947, due to material shortages after World War II, he introduced the Bamboo Bag, crafted with lightweight bamboo,

which gained immense popularity then.

Taking the first step outside Italy, Gucci opened a store in New York’s Savoy Plaza Hotel in 1952. Guccio Gucci passed away on January 2, 1953, in Milan at 71. Despite seven decades since his passing, the Gucci brand remains one of the world’s most significant and largest fashion empires
